tis the season

this year, we celebrated thanksgiving at home…just the three of us.  it was quite nice!  we had a rather large turkey, but we made several dishes and sandwiches over the next week with the leftovers!  daddy and i made a delicious pumpkin pie again this year!!!

  

that weekend, we ventured over to newland to get our christmas tree.  it is quite a pretty one and we had a great time decorating it and testing out the candy canes!

   

dude the elf returned for the christmas season too!  he has been busy watching over me from different spots each day and i have been trying to be good so he can report nice things about me to santa.  i love running downstairs first thing in the morning to find him and i always bring a book with to read to him!   

we got about an inch of snow last week, which was so wonderful for me so that i had something different to do!  i made snow angels, snow balls, went sledding in the front yard and also tried to shovel a little.

      

friday night was the tree lighting at the banner elk town park.  it was so neat because they put luminaries around the entire paved loop in the park and had several trees with lights on them.  i had some hot chocolate and a cookie and also got to visit santa and mrs clause!

first things first, let’s catch up a little bit with some halloween pictures!  i got to celebrate a few times in my costume this year.  i told everyone i was rapunzel since i had a really long blonde braid on the back of my hat. 

this year, i went to halloween at the Y and it was outside.  they had fun games, including the cake walk, which i played a few times but didn’t win.  they also had a costume parade and a bonfire where we could roast marshmallows.

      

we also had a fall festival at the church where i am in awana cubbies.  they had a costume contest, a bonfire where we cooked hot dogs and made smores and also a hayride!

     

we carved our smaller pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern one night (i named him jackie) and made cookies to share with my classmates at school.

 

  

on halloween, we went to the banner elk trunk-or-treat at the town park.  there were lots of decorated cars and nice people handing out candy and a really fun costume contest.  i got a medal this year for honorable mention for my costume!  i also got a free yummy hot dog!

     

i am in a tumbling class this fall through the Y.  it meets every saturday morning and i am learning a lot!  it is helping most with my listening skills and challenging me to try new things.  but above all, it’s lots of fun!

 

the past few weeks, we have taken advantage of every mild day we get by going to the park.  i have been taking my bike with me too and getting much better at riding it.  i wasn’t too good with my brakes before and would get scared of even the smallest hill, but now i am very brave and love to ride fast.

things are woolly

we had a great weekend up in the high country!  the weather was very fall-ish and we took advantage of that, especially since it will feel more like winter later this week.

our friends the byrne’s made the drive up from georgia for a quick weekend visit.  we enjoyed playing outside and we also went to the woolly worm festival in downtown banner elk on saturday.  we watched some worms race up a string, ate some fair food and got to try out a few bounce houses.  we found a woolly worm on our walk to the festival and he was our special pet for the day.  we named him freddy!

      

sunday after our guests rolled out of town mommy and i went to tweetsie for the afternoon to celebrate my friend maggie turning 4!  it was great seeing her since we haven’t seen each other in awhile.  we enjoyed being at tweetsie too since we haven’t been yet this fall.  they always do such a wonderful job there of decorating it for halloween and the harvest.
